Something New is Coming to CJC – HVKUSY!!

Croton Jewish Center has been collaborating with First Hebrew, Temple Beth Shalom of Mahopac and Yorktown Jewish Center to pool our resources, and create a new, vibrant and effective youth group. Beginning in September of 2009, Jewish teens and pre-teens in Northern Westchester/Putnam will have a way to make more Jewish friends, hang together and do cool things when they join the new Hudson Valley Kadima/USY Youth Group (HVKUSY.)

HVKUSY will include two age groups - Kadima will be for 6th - 8th graders, while USY will be for teens in 9th – 12th grade. Activities will include entertainment, community service, tzedakah, trips, participation in regional events and leadership workshops, and sleepover Shabbats at the collaborating temples. Unaffiliated Jewish teens are welcome to join in. Events will take place at each of the different shuls depending of what type of facility is needed.

The benefits of a youth group go beyond providing our teens with an enjoyable and meaningful manner in which to connect with other Jewish teens. The programming will connect our youth with Jewish traditions such as doing mitzvot, and the importance of supporting Israel. Further, since HVKUSY is a synagogue based youth group, the synagogue becomes the center of social interactions, providing a positive Jewish experience and identity.

Please join us for the kick-off BBQ scheduled for Sunday, June 14 from 4 – 7pm at First Hebrew. Representatives from METNYUSY and HVYC will be there to answer questions.
